Framing Folly Nowhere

Framing Folly Nowhere
Project type: Landscape (Academic)
Project year: 2017
Location: Site less
Folly is an ornamental structure with no functional purpose. It is typically used as a landmark, but in this project, the folly is not making an existing site but giving identity to nothing. It invites people to a new site, which will become a reason for the site's organic growth as a result of the presence of artificial geometry.
The design of the folly was inspired by framing in architecture. Four individual frames are installed on an elevated platform, framing each other and the pathways. Wood, brick, and marble are used to incorporate a natural color palette and texture into the folly, merging it with the surroundings. Over time, the aesthetic appearance of the folly will enhance as the materials age, further blending it with the surroundings.
